Take the Chevy Equinox on Every Adventure Around Rochester Hills

The compact crossover SUV market can be tough. However, the Chevy Equinox makes a good account of itself with its good fuel economy and a long list of features. Troy-area customers can choose from the L, LS, LT, or Premier trims here at Bill Fox Chevrolet.

Exterior

Riding on 17-inch aluminum wheels, the Chevy Equinox includes automatic halogen headlights, roof rails, heated power side mirrors, and active aero shutters as standard exterior features. At the LT trim level, Chevrolet replaces the halogen light bulbs with HID ones for better illumination around Sterling Heights. However, for a significant enhancement, spring for the top-level Premier, which comes with LED headlights, fog lamps, a hands-free liftgate, chrome accentuation, auto-dimming ability, and turn-signal indicators on the side mirrors, and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior

A five-seater with two cloth-trimmed rows, the Chevy Equinox provides 103.5 cubic feet of passenger space, with active noise cancellation technology to keep the cabin free from outside noise and annoying vibrations. Passenger volume is measured at 103.5 cubic feet, and cargo space is set at 29.9 cubic feet with expansion to 63.9 cubic feet if you fold down the rear seats.

Go for the LT trim to gain eight-way power on the driver's seat, or go for the Premier to get perforated leather upholstery, front-seat heating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a two-position driver-side memory system. These features will keep you comfortable on every drive around Warren.

Technology

For infotainment, the Chevy Equinox relies on the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system, anchored by a seven-inch touchscreen. Chevrolet Infotainment 3 brings together elements such as a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, two USB ports for charging mobile devices, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. A keyless entry-and-start system enables ease of access and starting the vehicle, and a 3.5-inch screen displays driver information around Rochester Hills.

At the LT trim level, the Equinox gains a larger, 4.2-inch driver-information screen and a SiriusXM Radio trial subscription. Comfort and convenience peak on the Premier, which comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, remote engine start, auto-dimming ability and a garage-door opener on the rearview mirror, wireless charging ability, voice recognition technology, two USB data ports, and an audio jack for playing media from mobile devices, and an eight-inch HD color touchscreen in place of the seven-inch touchscreen.

Safety

At the base level, the Chevy Equinox has several driver-assistance technologies, like automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator. There's also a rear vision camera to flash a video image for monitoring what's behind you when backing out of somewhere.

However, if a crash occurs, the Equinox can deploy any of six airbags in the cabin. Also included is Teen Driver mode for encouraging ideal driving habits. Go for the Premier if you also want rear parking assist, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as high-definition video from the rear vision camera.

Performance

The engine on the Chevy Equinox is a turbocharged 170-horsepower 1.5-liter fou-cylinder (I4), which is tied to a six-speed automatic transmission. However, there's the option of a more powerful and smoother-operating powertrain with a 252-horsepower 2.0-liter I4 and a nine-speed automatic transmission.

With the base engine and the standard front-wheel drive, the Equinox can achieve up to 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which are great numbers for a compact crossover. When properly equipped, the Equinox can tow up to 3,500 pounds, and all-wheel drive is available if you want better traction on slippery surfaces around Troy and Sterling Heights.
